IP Farmers’ Baseline Data and Agricultural Production and Marketing Profiling

𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐃: The Department of Agriculture, Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran ng Kababayang Katutubo (4K) Program conducted a training on November 18-22, 2024, focused on IP Farmers’ Baseline Data and Agricultural Production and Marketing Profiling. The training took place at the Boy Scouts of the Philippines in Los Baños, Laguna. The training was divided into two batches.

The first batch included participants from the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Central Luzon, CALABARZON, and Western Visayas, along with their Indigenous Peoples Organization (IPO) representatives. The second batch was composed of participants from the Ilocos Region, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Central Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao, SOCCKSARGEN, and CARAGA.

The objective of the training was to evaluate the progress of the program, identify challenges, and adjust strategies for its successful implementation. It also focused on collecting baseline data, which is crucial for measuring the impact of the program’s interventions. The activity was led by Emmanuel Miraflores, Head of the Monitoring & Evaluation and Management Information Systems Section of 4K-NPMO. He introduced the concept of the baseline survey and explained how this tool would help collect and track baseline data, allowing the program to monitor ongoing updates.

The training included interactive discussions where participants exchanged ideas on how to effectively ask questions in the survey. Suggestions were also shared on how to communicate the survey properly to both beneficiaries and non-beneficiaries of the 4K program.

After the discussion, participants engaged in role-playing exercises where they applied what they had learned about the baseline data survey. This helped them practice conducting surveys in a realistic setting. Mr. Miraflores also discussed the use of digital data collection through the Kobo Toolbox application. Participants were trained to use the app while conducting surveys, with support from the RPMO staff.

The training concluded with a session on survey planning and preparation. Mr. Miraflores explained how to develop an action plan for the pilot phase, including how to address challenges in data collection. The group also discussed how to plan and set target numbers for the survey, as well as the importance of the data for the success of the program.

This training was to ensure that the participants were equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary for successful data collection and implementation of the 4K program.
