Empowering Program Implementers: Skill Development of Indigenous Peoples Farmers in Corn, Cassava, and Ginger Cultivation

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊 | The Department of Agriculture Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran ng Kababayang Katutubo conducted a farm management training from August 19-23, 2024 at Lola’s Healthy Farm in Occidental Mindoro that focused on managing corn, cassava, and ginger crops. The event, which aimed to enhance farming techniques and productivity, began with a welcoming remark by Mr. Eddie D. Buen, the Agricultural Production Coordinator of Occidental Mindoro. In his address, Mr. Buen emphasized the importance of continual learning and adaptation in farming practices, setting a positive tone for the training sessions ahead.

The program featured expert speakers who provided detailed insights into each crop. Mr. Joel Ryan R. Pagdato from ATI-RTC IV-B led a session on corn farming, covering effective methods to enhance yield and quality. Mr. Jay-Ar B. Madriaga from ATI-RTC IV-B followed with a talk on cassava cultivation, focusing on best practices and pest management. The final session, led by Mr. Norodin S. Malugayak, Ph.D., from 4K NPMO, offered guidance on optimizing ginger production.

Additionally, Mr. Gilbert V. Baltazar from 4K NPMO conducted a workshop on production and costing. This session taught participants how to manage their resources and budget effectively, which is crucial for running a successful farm. Overall, the training provided valuable knowledge and practical tools that attendees can apply to improve their farming operations.
