Coffee Site Visit to Nagpana Minorities Association in Sitio Nagpana, Brgy. Lipata, Boratac Viejo, Iloilo

𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐃: From September 10-12, 2024, a team from the 4K Program, together with representatives from the Office of the Undersecretary for High Value Crops, visited the Nagpana Minorities Association in Sitio Nagpana, Brgy. Lipata, Barotac Viejo, Iloilo. The purpose of the visit was to assess the area and the organization for potential assistance to boost coffee production, identified as the key commodity for the Indigenous People’s (IP) ancestral domain development.

The visit was led by 4K Program Director Lucia A. Campomanes and 4K Region 6 Focal Person Glenda A. Himatay, with Enrique dela Cruz and Nehemiah Bulatao representing the Office of the Undersecretary for High Value Crops. Teams from 4K NPMO, 4K RFO 6, HVC RFO 6, and the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) also participated in the assessment.

During the activity, participants computed the administrative and production costs of coffee farming to estimate the total income potential for the community. An open forum was also held, where the community shared and confirmed data about their coffee production and discussed the current challenges and situation within the Ancestral Domain.

Following the site visit, the team conducted an exit conference. Dr. Norodin Malugayak led a workshop on the GROW Coaching Method, designed to guide and create strategies with the Regional Team in further assisting the Ancestral Domain and strengthening their community’s coffee production efforts.

This collaborative effort aims to support the sustainable growth of coffee production in Nagpana, fostering long-term development for the IP community.
